The game basically has two different sections. The main town, and then going out to into the world.
In town, the 4 options are:
Talk with Cecil (Rather useless to anyone who can't understand Japanese)
Rest at the Inn, which brings up the save menu
Shop, where you can buy items and upgrade your magic
Leave town
When leaving town, you then choose the area you want to head to which of course is limited by story progress.
Actual gameplay goes goes like this.
There are 6 cards, your goal is to advance by finding the monster card and beating it, however if you encounter the monster card first, it will raise your AC by one which makes you easier to hit (Ala pre 3.0 D&D). To get around this, you generally will want to use the scan ability (second of the choices) on one of the cards to show to you what it is so you can make your choices around the revealed card. The longer it takes for the monster card to be revealed, the more bonuses you get and if it is the last card revealed, you generally get mythril to upgrade your magic with so it is generally a good idea. There are also treasure and trap cards, which can have various effects.
Spells when exploring:
Cure Scan
Protect (Lowers your AC by 1)
Tent Gysahl Greens (Both bought at store)
Later, through upgrading them, you also can cast Blink and Shell on yourself while exploring, but it is a waste of your MP to do that. I got by without using them at all anyways.
Spells when fighting:
Fire Blizzard
Lightning Wind (Not sure on the name actually)
Escape Cure
Blink Shell
Note: Rydia can't actually use Fire in the game, due to reasons explained by FF4. See below for why it exists.
Combat essentially goes spam whatever the monster is weak against until it dies. Quite a few monsters are colour-coded for your convenience so make sure to take note of that, it comes in especially handy for slimes as they are highly resistant to anything that isn't their colour. A few of the boss fights have special mechanics to them, but beyond that, combat is rather simple.
General tips:
CG:
Slug - Leshy - Bite Lizard - Slime (Different colours grouped with this one) - Meltie
Landworm - Triggered event 1 - Locked for me - Locked for me - Kraken
Can't remember - Princess Meltie - Landworm mid-boss of lvl 4 - Bomb Swarm - Bonus CG
Bonus CG x 5
Triggered event 1 comes from drinking too many potions in the desert and then returning to it. I got it upon entering Stage 4 which starts off in the desert again, and I'm not certain in anymore CG can be obtained through the events that follow being swallowed by the monster.
The bonus CGs come from starting the desert again after you beat the last boss in stage 4. The only artist I recognize would be the 3rd one which was done by Depthbomb.
I believe one comes from being taken out by traps on one of the stages, not entirely certain. Both of the ones I'm missing probably come from this actually unless I missed a monster to lose to.
Scenes:
Slug - Leshy - Bite Lizard - Slime - Yellow Slime - Blue Slime
Meltie - Landworm - Locked - Locked - Triggered Event 1
Kraken - Can't remember - Landworm mid-boss of lvl 4 - Bomb Swarm
The 4 there are the same as above.

General tips:
- The first thing you should buy no matter what is the bracer from the shop in order to lower your AC by 1. This is extremely important in order to survive, though obviously you'll want to throw some battles, but you can't keep dying all the time.
- When you face against the monsters that will grant you a scene for the first time, just spam Fire. She can't use it so the monster won't take any damage and you won't waste MP doing anything either.
- As I said before, hitting the monster card last is generally what you want to aim for in order to get the money, xp, and mythril from doing so.
- To get your AC at the lowest possible, which is 2, you need to encounter an npc through the treasure card who will lower your AC if you pay him. He will lower your AC to a maximum of 3 (If you have the bracer which you should) after which you should cast Protect to lower it to 2. Early on, it is probably a better idea to lower your AC to 4 only due to the cost involved and then use protect.
- Store items:
Antidote, Eyedrop, Twinkledew, Holy Water: They all cure status effects if they are like their FF counterparts. I believe they are used automatically, or through treasure cards. I ignored these until the end. Didn't really effect much.
Tent: Allows you to rest while exploring and regain all your MP, health, and resets your AC. Note the last part as you will have to track down the AC NPC in order to lower it again when you do.
Pheonix Elixir: Allows you to revive once when defeated.
Gystahl Greens: Allows you to travel back to town instantly.
Mythril: Used for upgrading your magic.
Bracer: Lowers your AC by 1. Extremely important.
Ring of Protection: Not really sure.
Elven Cloak: Not really sure either.
Whisperer: I believe this gives you warning of trap cards sometimes. One of these three does at least.
-Upgrading your magic is important. It makes your black magic hit more often, and do more damage while it lets your white magic last longer, and heal more.
